Zen Cart: $1250 for me to customize and install
Zen Cart will deliver the ultimate online shopping experience to your customers. Navigating through your products is a breeze. The program provides several "Spotlight" lists in addition to the traditional category and product links. Once a product is added to the shopping cart, secure checkout is a simple 3-step process. After providing the billing information, your customer chooses the shipping method. Multiple shipping methods including real-time internet shipping quotes are built-in. Next, a payment type is selected from one of the popular payment modules. PayPal and AuthorizeNet are just two of the included modules. The customer reviews the order, shipping and payment choices, and confirms the order. You are immediately notified of the order and your customer automatically receives an e-mail confirmation. Content Management Software

A content management system (CMS) is a computer application used to create, edit, manage, and publish content in a consistently organized fashion. CMSs are frequently used for storing, controlling, versioning, and publishing news articles, operators' manuals, technical manuals, sales guides, and marketing brochures. The content managed may include computer files, image media, audio files, video files, electronic documents, and Web content.

About Browsers

Not everyone has the latest browser, or plug-ins, or the fastest modem or internet connection. On the average, a user will not go out of his or her way to download plug-ins, browser updates or other applications. When planning your website it is a good rule of thumb to allow for users with slow connections, or users with older browsers. Websites are not much fun if the end user cannot access your site. Huge image files, sound files, even Flash content can bog down some users.

About Search Engines

With more than 13 billion websites out there, search engines are the best way to find anything, and there are more than 800 search engines! In order for your site to show up during a search, your site has to:
1) Match the users search by it's name (ie., golf.com).
2) Include keywords and metatags that describe the website, as well as include content that matches the users search on the homepage.
3) Include content based on, and including keywords
4) Be manually submitted to the search engine on a monthly basis.

There are promotional service providers that will submit your site to numerous search engines, or you can submit your site yourself by following the submission guidelines listed on each search engine.

I always include metatags and keywords for every site that I design. Keywords can be aspects of your service, such as "fast, friendly, african-american, carpentry", etc.; they can also be your competitors names (this is legal!). In general they should be words that you yourself would type into any search window to find your business, (ie., taxes, doctors, accountants, film, etc.)
